Display a Deer or Christmas Tree

Display a Deer

Add a lighted deer in memory or in honor of someone dear to you.

August 8, 2019

Dear Friends,

The Celebration of Holiday Lights Committee is working diligently to make sure that Gypsy Hill Park will again be aglow this year – with 214 acres of lovely holiday lights! – from November 25 through December 31, 2010, every evening from 5pm-11pm. The event is free and open to all. More than 30,000 vehicles visited the park during the 10th Annual Celebration last year!

One of the Celebration’s most looked forward-to features is the “Field of Deer,” which delights children and adults alike with more than 150 illuminated deer. We would welcome your participation in displaying a deer in the Field as part of this year’s celebration. A deer can be placed in honor of or in memory of a loved one, a military veteran, a friend or “just because.” Additionally, plaques for these can be purchased to be displayed on the Honor Board, located along the fenceline near the roadway. There is a one-time manufacturing charge of $10 for a plaque, which can be reused in future years. Note that purchasing a plaque is not mandatory – there is no cost for simply bringing a deer.  (The attached application has the details on the available time-slots for dropping off and picking up your deer, along with requirements for an outdoor-use extension cord, etc.).

Our Staunton Parks & Recreation Department and the Celebration of Holiday Lights Organization also invite you to attend Caroling in the Park at the Gypsy Hill Bandstand. There will be refreshments and holiday entertainment in a family-friendly environment.  We welcome you to come, bring family and friends, sit, have a hot chocolate and cookies, and enjoy the fellowship.

Should you have questions, please contact Dave Rochford of Boy Scout Troop 30 – Staunton VA. We are looking forward to seeing you at the local treasure that is Gypsy Hill Park!

Peace be with you,

Rev. Dave Rochford

Field of Deer Application

Light a Tree

Light a Christmas tree in honor of our military/veterans or first responders (fire,

police, & first aid).

It should be a plastic-coated metal tree with white lights. Attach a 50 ft. outdoor extension cord with your name and phone number and bring your tree to the third baseball diamond in Gypsy Hill Park.

Please bring the tree on Saturday, November 16th between 12 and 2 pm.

If you want to bring a tree, but are unable to come at that time, I may be able to make arrangements to meet you there on a different day or time.

The tree must be fully assembled before you “drop it off”.

No application is required to light a tree.

Trees will need to be picked up the first week of January (which is when the Celebration of Holiday Lights ends).
